What is the "zero series"?
Wajima-nuri lacquerware is renowned for its strict quality standards, with numerous established guidelines to ensure excellence. However, we've found that our lacquer techniques have been showcased exclusively within the confines of traditional Wajima-nuri. This realization led us to ponder: Could these skills enrich more lives if applied beyond these traditional boundaries? Our aspirations to enter the U.S. market further highlighted the need for such an approach.
Additionally, some of our fellow artisans have had to leave Wajima due to unavoidable circumstances, such as natural disasters. We hope that, free from the constraints of traditional Wajima-nuri, they can continue their lacquer craftsmanship with pride. With this sentiment, we introduce the zero series.
The zero series encompasses:
- Creations that utilize Wajima-nuri techniques to convey the allure of lacquerware, even if they don't strictly adhere to traditional Wajima-nuri classifications.
- Pieces partially crafted by artisans who have relocated from Wajima due to factors like disasters or personal circumstances.
Items that meet either of the above criteria and are original products of Senshudo are presented as part of the "zero series." The name "zero" embodies our desire to forge new connections with customers—starting from zero to one—and to unite all skilled artisans into a harmonious circle.
