Senshudo Cup / Kiji-mise Sakura(Cherry Blossom)
kiji-mise (exposed wood).
The wooden base is coated three times with raw lacquer (ki-urushi) and then finished with a clear coating.
This piece is a collaboration between artisans from Wajima and Kaga (southern Ishikawa Prefecture).
The design is shaped to enhance the aroma, sweetness, and acidity of sake.
When poured, the interior decoration glimmers in gold, adding a festive and elegant touch.
In Japanese culture, cherry blossoms (sakura) are deeply cherished as symbols of fleeting beauty, renewal, and the transient nature of life. On this cup, the cherry blossom motif not only celebrates the elegance of the season but also reflects a profound cultural appreciation for nature’s impermanence and beauty.
